Day 2: The Road To Anza

This morning we woke up at BJ's house in Ramona and began packing up our supplies.  We were pleasantly surprised when Dimple, the elderly landlord of BJ, gave us money for breakfast to eat at the local Ramona Cafe.  So after being completely satisfied with such a good breakfast and chatting with a few regulars at the diner we headed out and began a decent climb up that wound us through a great view of farmland.  We briefly stopped at the town of San Ysabela, and then climbed a slow long hill for an hour.  We then were able to coast down into a beautiful valley that had amazing mountains on all sides.  We also saw some holstein cows out in a pasture.  When we arrived in Warner Springs we stopped to eat lunch at a picnic table at the golf course.  While eating we met two men who were walking from Mexico to Canada.  It is neat to see some other people that are crazier than we are.  We then headed on towards Anza.  Before arriving we hit a huge hill that seemed to take all afternoon.  We were seen going up the hill by many of the people we met in town.  We ate dinner at Dairy Queen, it was the first fast food we could find.  Steve actually had some mold on his bun so we ended up getting a free blizzard that we were all able to share.  We got to meet Susan, a local veterinarian, who asked us a little about our trip and said she was headed to an informal worship at her church that was only about a mile down the road.  So we decided to head there and check it out. We stayed for a couple of hours meeting some amazing and kind folks at the small Calvary Chapel.  Jody got to play guitar and help with worship a little bit which was fun.  We cannot say enough thanks to the congregation at Calvary that we met that evening for their generosity.  One of the Jeffs we met was kind enough to share some MRE's to take on the our trip.  The other Jeff and his wife lori let us all get showers and hang out at there house for a little bit later in the evening.  It always feels really good to be clean.  We also had a small sprinkler system problem before we left to get showers in the evening, luckily Jeff knew how to turn them off.  All of our stuff was on the grass and the sprinklers started watering everything.  So we had a mad scramble to  get everything off of the grass where we were going to tent before it all got soaked, but luckily there was a small part of the grass that was still dry where we could set up our tent and sleep for the night.

66 miles, no breakdowns, warm and sunny
