Day 28: Dreaming of Ice Cream in Park Hills

We were waken up this morning by the usual 8 or so different sounding alarms that all seem to get snoozed.  Once we actually got up Ish made us all eggs for breakfast, trying to clear out the fridge before they head on their trip.  It was great to sleep in A/C last night and feel cool for a change.  We packed everything up and headed out at about the same time as Ish and Emily.  We merged back on I-44 for about 10 miles before we exited to go on route 8, which  went through a bunch of state forest.  Actually right before we got off of the Interstate we hit our 2000th mile, which was exciting knowing we only have about 1000 miles left.  It was again very hot and humid but we were able to get most of our miles done earlier in the day.  During the morning Steve had many flat tire stops.  His armadillo rear tire that he has been bragging about since he bought it in Moab, Utah saw its first flat and lost its never been flat status.  We made it to lunch at 1 and had 62 mile in, so we knew we would have an easy afternoon with only about 16 miles.  Lunch was at McDonalds, except for Steve who went and bought Taco Bell and brought it over, and after we met a state representative who came over and talked to us as we changed Steve's tube after lunch.  Riding after lunch was very relaxed and fun.  We all where in good spirits singing and laughing.  We decided to have a competition who could drink their full camelback the fastest, all 3 liters.  Steve managed to drink it all in 7.8 miles!  Lyle and Jody both gave up after a couple minutes because they were still full from lunch.  Once we made it to Park Hills we searched for a house and it took till the fifth house before we could find a place to stay because no one seemed to be home.  The house that graciously let us stay in the yard has 3 roommates: Sherry, Erica, and Chuck.  We all were able to get showers and Erica and Sherry were nice enough to offer to make us dinner.  We bought a lot of ice cream at the grocery store to eat for dessert so we are looking forward to eating that...we got 5 quarts.  We were talking about binging on ice cream all afternoon.

80 miles, fun day, not too hot
